Belo Horizonte, Brazil
*Accepting new staff, volunteers, and short-term outreach teams!
Leaders: Davidson and Luciane Estanislao
Ministry: Sower House (Casa Semear)
Summary: Since 1994, YWAM Belo Horizonte has had a team working with the Deaf. During this period of time, a wide variety of actions have been developed with the help of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) to show the love of Jesus. In 2000 the base acquired the Sower House aiming to have a larger space to meet the needs of this ministry to Deaf children and adolescents, especially those in vulnerable situations.
Deafness itself causes these individuals to face multiple barriers since childhood. However, because of poverty and dysfunctional homes, these challenges can become much greater.
What they do:
-
Receive small groups of Deaf children and teenagers;
-
Organize outings for groups of Deaf children and teenagers;
-
Offering assistance to families with Deaf children/teenagers;
-
Organizing evangelistic events and lectures at schools where there are Deaf students;
-
Offering talks at churches and conferences on how to minister to the Deaf.
Target People: They primarily reach local Deaf Brazilians, mostly youth and children, but they also connect with young adults.
YWAM training available for the Deaf: They periodically host mini DTS's for the Deaf.
