Ministry: Strong Hands Mission for the Deaf

​

Summary: Strong Hands Mission for the Deaf is part of Youth With A Mission ministries in Myanmar. They exist to proclaim Jesus Christ to the unreached and unengaged Deaf people group. They are partnering with current Deaf church leaders to see one school and one church for the Deaf in every state in Myanmar. They also have a heart for Deaf children’s education and are running a home for Deaf children, allowing them to attend Deaf school. They currently partner with existing organizations such as the Deaf Bible Translation Team and projects such as creating the first Burmese Sign Language dictionary.

Their long term vision is to see Deaf people experience the transforming power of God’s love, have confidence, and thrive in every sphere of society. They wish to see Christian evangelism, discipleship and education available to all Deaf in Myanmar.

Target People: They are reaching a wide range within the Deaf community including a children’s home for Deaf children (CrossHome), as well as reaching young adults, middle age and the elderly in their church and supporting their two local Pastors.

YWAM training available for the Deaf: Not at this time.

​

Current number of other Staff/Volunteers: Two local staff and two foreigners.

Special Prayer Requests:

• There are over 650,000+ Deaf in Myanmar, with only 3 churches and 4 schools. Most of these Deaf have never had access to some form of education and with that, literacy rate is low. Learning how to read and write is one of the challenges they face, as well as learning a common sign (currently the country uses over three signs based on geographical location). Prayer request is that that Deaf people will have an opportunity for education and open doors for sponsorship for Deaf children to reach a formal education.  

• Deaf church members will be trained and equipped to reach Deaf people in all locations for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

• Praying to have a community center in Yangon where they can serve, educate, train, equip, disciple and mentor Deaf people for the glory of God. 

• Praying for more laborers to this Deaf harvest field with a vision and calling from GOD.
